Yep I did it and I want to do it a few more times! This run was perfect, well maybe a little hilly. Shirley and I were prepared and we followed our training plan quite perfectly. I felt super comfortable going into it and I feel like we did amazing! For my first half marathon finishing in 2.15 and never stopping thats pretty dang good! I'm proud of myself!
We woke up early and headed out to trax. I'm so happy we loaded sooner in the route cause it was packed by downtown. The amount of people that do this race is crazy! The only glitch I had was my foam piece for my headphones disappeared on trax. I had to run the entire time without it which got kinda uncomfortable. The race and route were great, again maybe a little hilly. We didn't stop though for the hills and just kept trekking. I thought it was cool that they had so much for the runners. Everything from goo to Gatorade, granola bars, to star glasses. Around mile 8 I started to get tired, it was after a huge hill. Shirley did an amazing job at pushing me and keeping me going. She really made mile 8-11 easier! Around mile 11 I got a second wind and finishing the last miles were easy. Finishing was the best part and it really made all the training worth it! Our families were all there cheering us on, we grabbed hands and finished with huge smiles on our faces! It was such an incredible feeling. Just 4 months before the thought of a half marathon made me laugh. Now I've finished my first and I'm 3 weeks away from my second. Running is a love hate relationship for me. I love the feeling of finishing and the feeling when I have a really good mile or push through the hard parts. It's for sure hard and its hard finding time to train. It's a huge commitment but a good one! Thank you Shirley for making me do this and for introducing me to something I hopefully will continue doing. I love you and look up to you more than you will ever know!
Proud of this medal!
